ONE OF THE LUCKIEST HARD WORKING ARTISTS

THE DAY JOSE’ ALVAREZ MET BERNARDO CHILINDRON FOR AN INTERVIEW ABOUT A ROLE IN ONE OF HIS PROJECTS. HE KNEW THEN THAT HE WAS BEHINED ALL OF THE OTHER NEW YORK ACTORS WHO WAS IN THE HUNT. NEWS OF AUDITIONS HAVE A WAY OF HITTING THE LATIN COMMUNITY LATE IN THE GAME. SO, IT’S NO WONDER THAT FEW LATINOS GET THE BREAK THAT EVERYONE ELSE SEEMS TO GET. THE INTERVIEW WASN’T WHAT YOU CALL AN AUDITION. IT WAS CONDUCTED JUST OUTSIDE NEW YORK. NOTHING FANCY JUST A COZY PLACE WHERE HE CALLS HOME. THERE BERNARDO AND JOSE’ SAT AND HAD A CUP OF COFFEE, AND TALKED ABOUT THE FILM. WHAT BERNARDO WAS LOOKING FOR WAS SOMEONE WHO WOULD PLAY A PARTICULAR ROLE IN HIS FILM PROJECT. THE QUESTION WAS COULD JOSE’ FIT THE BILL. TO THIS DAY JOSE’ COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT BERNARDO SAW IN HIM.

WHATEVER IT WAS, IT SEEMS THAT LANDING A ROLE IN HIS PROJECT WOULD PLACE NEW DEMANDS ON HIM AS A PERSON AND A PERFORMER. THERE IS REQUIREMENT THAT FEW ARTISTS ARE WELLING TO MEET. HE WAS SURE THAT WHAT MAY BE CONSIDERED A SMALL ROLE IN A FEATURE LENGTH MOTION PICTURE COULD BE THE BREAK FOR JOSE’. NEEDLESS TO SAY JOSE’ TOOK THE CHALLENGEAND IN DOING SO BECAME A STAR IN HIS OWN RIGHT.

STARDOM THE HARD WAY

JOSE’ KNEW THAT IF HE WANTED TO BECOME A SOUGHT AFTER PERFORMER, IT WOULD TAKE HARD WORK. UP UNTIL THAT TIME HE THOUGHT HE WAS DOING WELL. AFTER ALL HE WAS IN FILMS WITH KNOW STARS AND PERFORMERS. IN BROADWAY PLAYS WITH POPULAR TITLES, GETTING UP ON STAGE DOING STAND-UP COMEDY ACTS, SINGING AND DANCING. HE GOT THE SMALL ROLES WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT. IT WASN’T UNTIL LATER THAT HE FOUND OUT THAT THE PRODUCER WANTED HIM TO BECOME A BANKABLE ARTISTS AS WELL. THIS IS WHERE THE HARD WORK AND SWEATING BEGAN. JOSE’ KNOWS THAT AFTER PRESENTING HIMSELF AS A MADE PERFORMER HE WAS BEINGCHALLENGED. THE FEATURE THAT WILL HIT FESTIVALS THIS YEAR 2008 “SACRED GAME” IS A FILM THAT WILL CLEARLY SHOW JOSE’S CHARACTER ACTING ABILITIES. IN THIS FILM JOSE’ PORTRAYS AS A WELL ARTICULATED MEXICAN AMERICAN LAWYER AND HIS ALTER EGO PITO.
A ROUGH MEXICAN HOMBRE WITH THE TASTE FOR MOTORCYCLS, WOMEN, ALCOHOL AND ALWAYS LAUGHS IN THE FACE OF DANGER. WITHOUT A DOUBT, THAT MAY HAVE BEEN WHAT BROUGHT HIM TO THE ATTENTION OF SOME OBSERVERS. WHO ARE CONSTANLY ON THE LOOK OUT FOR GOOD PERFORMERS? CLEARLY JOSE’ MADE HIS MARK IN THIS FILM THIS YEAR. IT IS ALREADY BEEN PROPOSED THAT HE WILL BECOME A FAMILIAR FACE AND ARTIST IN FILMS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
